Jordi Chanovas, Ph.D. Candidate
Jordi is a PhD candidate in the Alarcon Lab studying how gut microbiota modulates brain function, focusing on the spatial organization of memory-related neuronal ensembles within the hippocampal network. During his free time, he enjoys playing the piano.
Ernie Cote, Ph.D. Candidate
My research interests are focused on examining the underlying neurobiology involved in depression and cognitive-affective bias. The current project I have in the Alarcon lab is investigating the impact of early life stress on key brain areas that are involved in depression as well as threat appraisal. I’m also a licensed psychotherapist in NYC and use my clinical experience to inform my research questions as well as my research design.
William Fyke, M.D./Ph.D. Candidate
William Fyke is an MD-PhD candidate at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. His PhD thesis focused on genetic causes of autism spectrum disorders and potential therapeutic targets. His clinical and research interests focus on pediatrics and neurogenetics.
Milena Rodriguez-Alvarez, Ph.D. Candidate
Milena is a physician with training in immunology and rheumatology. As a clinician, she cares for patients with systemic inflammatory conditions. As a PhD candidate in neurosciences, her goal is understanding neural regulation of inflammation to treat rheumatic disease.
Isaac Vingan, M.D./Ph.D. Candidate
Isaac is a current MD/PhD candidate in the Alarcon Lab. His current research focuses on memory-related neuronal activity and gene expression. He considers himself the ultimate nerd, and in his free time, he enjoys swimming, cooking, and trying new foods.
Collaborators
Natasha Bobrowski-Khoury, Ph.D. Candidate
I am a collaborator in the REACH program. Research and Education in Autism for College and High School Students (REACH) is a multi-disciplinary summer program for under-represented students interested in careers in STEM and medicine. In this program, they are exposed to the research, clinical, and academic approaches to understanding autism spectrum disorder (ASD). My role is to mentor the students design and implement research questions utilizing animal models of ASD.
